Isleham forges link with Zambian school

Taonga School in Zambia is a Christian school on the outskirts of the capital Lusaka. It is charity run and Taonga  means ‘we are grateful.’  The school was started for children in the local area whose families could not afford to send them to school. The pupils from Taonga school all come from poor families who can’t afford the books and uniforms needed to send their children to a government school.
 
Our current Year 6 class at Isleham Primary have started a correspondence with the grade 3 class at Taonga school in Zambia  ( 8 – 17years old) and the school as a whole will be learning more about the lives of the children at Taonga school as the year progresses.  
 
As part of this partnership, we aim to develop empathy and understanding, as well as cultural awareness and insight into the wider world. A huge thank you to all the parents who have already donated old school uniforms and resources; they were very gratefully received when Mrs Sassoli visited the school in the summer holidays.
